Atlanta, GA – Atlanta Downtown and Arts & Entertainment Atlanta are thrilled to announce the arrival of the mesmerizing light and sound installation Prismatica In The Park. This dazzling display will be free and open to the public from Saturday, February 17, 2024, through Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Woodruff Park (91 Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, GA 30303).
Prismatica is a captivating journey into a kaleidoscopic world of color, light, and sound. Originally conceived for the 2014 Luminothérapie competition in Montreal, Canada, by the creative minds at RAW Design, Prismatica has captivated audiences across North America. The installation comprises 25 towering prisms over six feet tall, each coated with a dichroic film that reflects a spectrum of colors. These prisms pivot, illuminating the park with an ever-changing array of colors that shift with the daylight and the viewer’s perspective. At night, projectors and musical chimes add another layer of interactive experience, transforming the space into a vibrant, modern-day ice palace.
Visitors to Prismatica In The Park can expect to immerse themselves in an interactive experience where they can manipulate the prisms to change the light patterns, creating a dynamic and personalized spectacle. This engaging installation encourages participants to explore the relationship between light, sound, and space, offering a unique opportunity to see downtown Atlanta in a new and radiant light.
Prismatica’s journey from Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles to Atlanta’s Woodruff Park marks its continued success as a traveling installation. Having previously enchanted visitors in locations such as Ottawa’s Parliament Hill, the Potomac River in Washington D.C., downtown Calgary, Niagara Falls, and most recently downtown Orlando, Prismatica is set to make its next stop in Atlanta. This exhibition is not only a testament to the installation’s universal appeal but also highlights Downtown Atlanta’s role as a burgeoning hub for cultural and artistic expression.
“The unveiling of Prismatica at Woodruff Park highlights the transformative impact of public art on creating a vibrant urban center,” said Fredalyn M. Frasier, Project Director of Planning and Urban Design at the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District. “This installation demonstrates the lively interaction of light and sound and how creative, engaging art can rejuvenate downtown areas, instilling wonder and community spirit. Through these types of collaboration, we aim to do more than display art; we strive to forge immersive experiences that encourage engagement, spark creativity, and enhance Downtown Atlanta’s role as a hub of cultural innovation.”
