We can spend a lot of time doing up our home and making it exude curb appeal on the outside while turning it into the perfect home on the inside. This isn’t cheap! When the time comes that we get to go away with the family or by ourselves we could feel somewhat apprehensive about leaving our home.
Keeping your home secure while you’re away on vacation is something that shouldn’t be too difficult. Naturally, we can feel somewhat stressed about going away, even for a few days.
Invest In A Security System
It’s common sense at this point. There are plenty of home security companies out there that can install the most basic system for you, and even more systems that you can install yourself. There are plenty of video doorbells now that give you the opportunity to see visitors that come to your door. So even if you are relaxing on a Caribbean beach, you still have the opportunity to vet anybody that comes knocking.
Don’t Give Yourself Away Online
We think nothing of uploading a selfie of us in front of the Eiffel Tower and putting it online for all and sundry, but you’ve got to remember that when you’re sharing so much personal information there could be people that have access to your data that you don’t know. As nice as it is to post your vacation pictures it’s best to wait until you come home!
Ask A Friend To Help Out
It’s a simple way to get some peace of mind while you are away. If you can’t stop your mail, asking a friend to check on your home every couple of days and taking the mail in can make a big difference to the exterior of your property. Having movement throughout the inside and outside of your home while you’re gone can make a huge difference in appearance. Be sure to bribe your friend with some sweet treats but also give them details of your itinerary just in case there are any emergencies.
Informing Your Neighbors
If you live next to neighbors you trust, there’s no harm in letting them know your travel dates. Ask them to keep an eye out for anything abnormal while you’re gone. They could even grab packages or help with your pets if you don’t have anyone else you can ask.
We don’t want to stress out while we are away and when we have spent so long fixing up our home we’ve got to remember that we deserve some proper downtime. But if we don’t protect our home properly then we may find ourselves coming back from vacation early.
