Now and again we all want to make some changes to our lifestyle and diet, and it is important for us to try new things to help us live a longer life. If you are considering switching up your diet for the better this year, there are some foods that should be at the top of your shopping list.
As well as using hundred vitamins and supplements and exercising, the foods we eat can impact our health dramatically. That’s why we are going to share with you the foods you should bring into your diet this year for a happier and healthier life.
Bok Choy
There are many foods in the leafy green category that we have never tried. Unless you are an oriental cuisine lover you may not have ever had Bok Choy. Even though this looks more like a type of lettuce, it is actually more closely related to Brussel sprouts and offers similar health benefits. By steaming this and adding it to your bowl of ramen you will gain a big dose of vitamin C, as well as tons of antioxidants.
Squash
Squash comes in many different forms… from pumpkin to butternut and even spaghetti, every member of the squash family has amazing health benefits. Squash has many benefits including its high vitamin C content as well as potassium, which is a great option if you hate bananas. It also contains beta-carotene which is known to be a cancer fighter. You can enjoy this wonderful food in several ways, and roasting cube with salt and pepper is incredibly tasty.
Chickpea
Chickpeas are a food that don’t get enough love on their own, but they are the base of many of our favourite foods. Hummus is made with ground chickpeas and falafels are often made with a chickpea base. But what are the health benefits of this little pea? Every single cup of chickpeas you eat contains 12g fibre to aid in healthy digestion. As well as this, chickpeas contain tons of iron to make for a healthy and happy body.
Quinoa
As Nandos likes to point out to us, this grain is pronounced KEEN-WAHHHH. Quinoa is a superfood that has been on the radar for quite some time and it is no surprise. Its signature nutty flavour makes it a unique addition to many dishes and there are lots of different ways to eat it. Quinoa is full of protein, it is gluten free, and it is a great source of magnesium which is an essential mineral for the body.
Mango
Mango is a tropical fruit that most of us know and love, but a lot of us have no idea how to slice one! Mangos are rich in vitamin C and fibre, and they also have a dose of vitamin E which helps to moisturise the skin. Eating this with either a sweet fruity dish or in a salsa with salmon is a winner.
Salmon
Speaking of salmon, this super fish is one we couldn’t not mention on the list. Salmon is a stunning fish and it contains omega 3 and 6 as well as a whole ton of amazing nutrients. If you can eat one portion of salmon each week you’ll benefit from protein, healthy oils to help the heart function, and even oils that help prevent blood clotting.
