If you aren’t aware of the wellness benefits of meditation yet, where have you been since 2010? This fantastic technique for calming your mind has been top of the hipster agenda for years, and offers a whole load of benefits including –
- Stress reduction
- Enhanced self-awareness
- Lengthened attention spans
- Improved self-control
And so much more!
On paper, you could go as far as to say that meditation is the miracle cure to 21st-century problems. The trouble is that it can be a darn difficult habit to get into. We modern beings simply struggle with the concept of sitting still. Then, there’s the issue of our constantly drifting minds. These, alongside a multitude of other roadblocks, can all prevent us from reaching that much-coveted meditation mindset.
But that’s not to say all hope is lost. In reality, there are some pretty simple steps you can take to make this habit stick and they aren’t all that complicated.
Always Give Yourself Time to Unwind
If you jump straight into meditation after getting home from work or finishing, then it’s hardly surprising that your mind is unable to settle. Adrenaline alone will get between you and relaxation, not to mention that you’ll have a whole load to think about and distract yourself with. By comparison, giving yourself ample time to unwind and enter a calm headspace can make all the difference. How you achieve this is up to you. You may choose to do a little reading, or use calming products like those offered at your local cannabis dispensary. You might even just settle for a bubble bath. Either way, you need to make sure that your mind is ready and still as can be when you sit down on that meditation mat.
Use Mental Cues
Along the same lines, you might want to use mental cues to further enhance your susceptibility to the meditation mindset. For some, this means setting up a specific space or room for this purpose. For others, it could mean putting on a certain instrumental, or lighting a specific candle/incense. These mental cues will go a long way towards taking your already calm mind further into that meditation space.
Keep the Calendar Free
If you have further commitments after your meditation practice, then you won’t be able to help but rushing things and bursting that mindset altogether. By comparison, sitting down when you have no other plans for that day means you can fully immerse yourself. You should even find that you’re able to keep some of that meditation mentality in place as you go about the rest of your routine. So, keep the calendar free, and dedicate yourself to this pursuit fully.
A mediation mindset is never going to fall into your lap and, even with these pointers in place, you may struggle to steady your mind or stop that niggling boredom. The thing to remember here is that patience is vital and that, alongside these critical pointers, is guaranteed to lead you to a meditation mindset at last.
