Weekends are typically days off for many people around the world. After a busy week of commuting and the stress of work, it is an unspoken time to relax, connect with family and friends and finally, focus on yourself.
Self-care should be a lifestyle and one way to promote this is by taking your weekends seriously. Make it sacred by opting for activities that add to your life and make you a more productive being. In that vein, here are 8 activities you can incorporate into the weekends that help in building a better version of yourself.
-
Read A Book
What better way to gain new knowledge and relax than to read a book? The simple act of reading a book is said to promote cognitive engagement which improves overall brain function. It does this by amping up cognitive reasoning and concentration as well as your vocabulary and thinking skills.
Reading can also influence a person’s perception and emotional intelligence. So, get a good book to read once in a while, even if it is a chapter a day. It could be fiction, non-fiction, or even a biography – you will definitely learn something new.

Deep Clean
The week can get so busy that people forget to clean up after themselves or even lay their beds. The weekend is a good time to change your sheets, do your laundry, or just focus on an area of your house that you have been ignoring for quite some time. Taking time out to deep clean your home does not only promote good hygiene, but it also enables you to relax and think better because being in a disorganized slave has a way of cluttering the mind.
-
Sleep
Yes, sleeping is a productive activity that should be done on weekends. Many adults find themselves falling short of the recommended sleeping hours because of work. As such, the weekend is a good time to allow your body to catch up on that sleep. If you are suffering from insomnia or having trouble sleeping, you can see a doctor. There are recommended prescriptions that promote sleep, including CBD oil.
-
Meditate
Meditating has a long history of calming the mind and body. It may not be easy practicing this every morning or evening after work so, take advantage of your weekend to recharge. You can select any of the meditation apps out there and use them as a guide. Alternatively, you could incorporate yoga and aromatherapy into your sessions. This is a good practice and it goes a long way to promote good mental health.

Learn Something New
Not everyone is going to get a job doing what they love and even when you do, your quest for knowledge should never cease. Take advantage of technology and register for that online course you have been hoping to take or learn and practice that recipe you have always wanted to try. When we learn new things, we turn ourselves into interesting people who are confident enough to engage in meaningful conversations.
Your weekends should be sacred and you can pick one day to catch up with friends and family and the others for self-care. Remember, self-care is not just about buying new things but includes maintaining good physical, mental and spiritual health.
