We’ve all been there. You wake up, you feel some aches, your body is still heavy, and you don’t feel well-rested at all. You look in the mirror and are horrified by how dead you look. This is often indicative of the lifestyle you lead, but it isn’t something irreversible. You can start putting some things into practice that don’t require much effort or extreme change to have significant results.
Here are some things you can do to make sure you feel fresh in the morning and ready to take on the day ahead.
Have A Nighttime Routine
The night before determines much of how the morning after will be. Even if you’d rather hop right into bed, give yourself some time to have a little nighttime beauty regimen to help you rid yourself of the grime and stresses of the day, then wake up feeling fresh. Put on some cleanser, toner, eye cream if you will, and then add some brightening vitamin C serum before you put on your final moisturizing cream for the night. This is a pretty simple process, and once you’ve got products that you already trust with your skin, it can be a great way to maintain that fresh feeling and not wake up with a face that feels too oily or dry.
Avoid Sleeping On Your Stomach
A lot of people sleep on their tummies for a variety of reasons. Some find it more comfortable because of how firm their mattress is, while others naturally fall asleep that way because they were using a gadget in bed like a laptop or tablet. Sometimes, people sleep in this position to reduce their snoring. However, sleeping like this is actually bad for you because it strains your neck and your back. You’re more prone to wake up feeling sore this way, and you’re not doing your face any favors by smashing it into your pillow every night.
This will require you to make a bunch of tweaks to cater to your sleeping position without hurting your body when you could train yourself to sleep on your back and avoid all that trouble altogether. You’ll find that getting up isn’t as much of a strain when you make that change.
Stick To A Schedule
Your body has a circadian rhythm that it needs to follow to perform best. It’s all a roundabout process. If you wake up at the same time consistently, you’ll be able to have a better night’s rest. In turn, that rest will help you to wake up feeling more energized, and your mind will be clear quicker than if you oversleep.
Studies also show that you’ll likely have a harder time getting to bed the next day if you try to sleep in. So as much as possible, try to keep that schedule even if you’re about an hour off now and then. It will help you be alert and have a less difficult time waking up. Imagine being able to feel prepared when you get out of bed instead of looking like an irritable slug.
Don’t Eat Before Sleeping
Eating before sleeping is one of the worst things you can do. You’ll bloat and likely feel the need to rush to the bathroom when you awaken. It should also be noted that if you make a habit of having your midnight snack right before getting into bed, you have a higher tendency for weight gain. Some foods even stimulate your mind in such a way that you could be more likely to get a nightmare. If you’ve ever woken up in a start because of a bad dream, then you know it’s not a pretty sight, and it doesn’t feel terrific.
Skip that little nibble before bed and drink a glass of water. You’ll thank yourself in the morning.
Water, Water, Water
That brings us to the magic natural resource that is water. Drink a little water to stay hydrated, cleanse, and have a clearer head in the morning. Just don’t drink too much, or you may wake up in the middle of the night having to go to the bathroom.
You also want to use the power of water by washing up before bedtime. It helps you relax and removes the excesses from the day, so you don’t bring it into your bed. Even if you don’t want to have a long bath, a quick splash on the face as part of your nighttime routine can do wonders.
Try these out yourself and feel the difference whenever you take on a new day.
