Getting bored during the lockdown? Looking for a few home maintenance jobs to keep you occupied? Now is the perfect time to get your house looking lovely, these five DIY jobs are all super easy and require minimum tools. It’s time to put on your favorite music, roll up your sleeves and get your home in tip-top shape!
1 . Clean up your driveway
Now that the sun is out it’s time to get outside and clean up your driveway. First off, look for weeds and pull these up, they look unsightly and do zero for that curb appeal. Next, use a pressure washer to give your driveway a nice clean. You might need to scrub with a wire brush, if you have hardened areas of dirt that won’t come off. To avoid these dirt build ups it’s best to clean your driveway at least once a month.
- Repaint your home
Repainting your home is the easiest way to improve your home’s interior design. For your rooms inside, consider shades of yellow or green, both are trending this year, and help to create a mood of positivity. To protect the earth and your lungs, it’s best to use an eco-paint brand. Eco-paints are usually made out of substances like milk protein, clay, natural dye and fruit extracts. For a few great earth friendly paint brands, try ECOS Paint, and Clare.
- Clean aircon filter
Now that we’ve got some hot weather you’ll probably need to use your air-con system. It’s important to clean out the filter every once in a while, so give it a clean before you fire it up. Use warm water or you can use the small hose of your vacuum cleaner if you prefer. Some newer air-con systems have a self-cleaning function, (but if you’re unsure it’s best to clean it anyway)! If your system is broken, it’s best to get it fixed before it gets really hot. While you’re at it, arrange appliance repair for any other appliances that need it.
4. Spruce up your garden
Now is an ideal time to give your garden a spruce up. Flowers including marigolds, nasturtiums and coreopsis are all perfect flowers to plant in the summertime. To make gardening a little more fun, try using the SmartPlant app. The app gives you plenty of advice and tips including plant identification and plant care. With SmartPlant you can learn about plant diseases and how to protect your plants. You can also talk to gardening experts on the message chat.
- Don’t forget pest control
Summer is the peak time for pests, to keep them away try using some diatomaceous earth. It’s a natural pest control remedy made from phytoplankton fossils. Simply sprinkle it around the edges of the floor, and it will dehydrate and kill any insect-pests. You can also try buying some eucalyptus oil and rubbing it on your surfaces. Kitchens are a prime place for pests, so focus on this area.
