Self-care and wellness are crucial components of a happy life, but with so much going on, yes, even during quarantines and lockdowns, it can be a challenge to find the time to treat yourself the way you deserve.
This can be an issue. If you’re not careful, you risk being overwhelmed by the responsibilities and stresses of life. Because of this, you’ve got to make sure you find the time for the self-care you deserve. If you’re feeling unsure of where or how to start, here are 3 steps to ensure that you feel as good as you need to be, and the stress of real life doesn’t get to you.
Set The Tone
Self-care is not like work where you sit down at your desk and eventually get into the zone. You need to feel like you’re ready to relax. You need to make sure that you’re not distracted or believe that you should be doing something else.
Because of this, it’s essential to set the tone for your rest and relaxation. You need to make a clear and evident shift away from professional responsibilities into personal ones. As you’re likely working at home, this can be merely moving away from your workstation. You can also allow yourself treats, snacks, or even a drink that you wouldn’t allow yourself while working. Doing so will help you relax and unwind, freeing your mind from working worries.
Combine Work With Self-Care
For some people, it’s not easy to take themselves away from work for self-care, though. In these instances, your best bet is to combine work with self-care to get the desired results.
If you want to exercise but know you can’t get to the gym on time, consider using a floor elliptical to use under your desk while you work. Likewise, if you need to attend an appointment, consider getting dental tooth crowns in a single visit aka “Same Day Crowns” on your lunch break or even before you go into the office.
Give Yourself a Goal
Self-care is an endless journey, and there should never be a point where you decide you’re finished caring for your physical and mental health. However, it’s still useful to have a goal to keep you motivated and ensure you treat yourself well.
A goal can be losing weight, finishing your novel, or trying to run a certain amount of miles every week. These ideas give you something to aim for, and even if you achieve them, you will have the confidence and drive to keep going. Despite this, it’s also important not to get too discouraged if you don’t achieve specific goals every time, as long as you’re consistent.
All the Time in the World
It often feels like you don’t have any time to do anything you want to do. Still, life should not be all about work and responsibilities/ you also need to find the time to look after yourself as much as you do others. Once you recognize where you can find the time, you’ll be able to make self-care more of a priority.
